Inuit Studies Conference

The 21st Inuit Studies Conference, hosted by UQAM and partnered with Concordia University saw over seven hundred registered participants assemble in downtown Montreal from across the world. The Inuit Futures team, having gathered the day before for our second Annual Gathering participated in several conference events, including the iNuit Blanche Gallery Crawl, and the Labrador Inuit Slipper-Making Workshops organized by the Inuit Futures in Arts Leadership: The Pilimmaksarniq / Pijariuqsarniq Project.

The four-day conference highlighted the diversity and strength of the Inuit Futures team, featuring several of our partners, Mentors, and ilinniaqtuit as panelists, and keynote speakers such as Heather Igloliorte, Alethea Arnaquq-Baril, Taqralik Partridge, Jessica Kotierk, Ryan Rice, Alyssa Procida, Britt Gallpen, Emily Henderson, Napatsi Folger, Jason Sikoak.

Students attended multiple sessions, including sessions focusing on art and identity, understanding human--non-human relationships, urban Inuit, food, architecture, supporting Inuit Leadership in the Arts at the Inuit Art Foundation and the last resting place of John Shiwak- a WWI sniper.
